1942 - 1943:

Allans diary finishes at 18/1/1942 and it is not known if he kept any further records. From his Army file and dates on photo’s etc he continued with the Divisional Cavalry until June 1942.

On 15/6/1942 he was posted the the NZ School of Instruction, Driving and Maintenance Wing, where he was appointed to Temporary Sergeant and was an Instructor teaching Greek soldiers driving skills. He finished at the School on 14/1/1943 and was posted to the 22nd NZ Motorised Battalion with whom he stayed until leaving for NZ on 3/6/1943.

He returned to NZ with the first furlough draft on the Nieuw Amsterdam, arriving back on 12th July 1943 and after marrying Annie Marion Leask on 31/7/1943 in Dunedin he returned to work for the NZ Railways Department in Dunedin.

A subsequent medical examination deemed him unfit to return to active service therefore he did not return overseas and was finally discharged from the Army on 26/2/1944.
