Military Enrolment and Service details.

Allans full name was James Allan Steel however he was commonly known as Allan. Please do not confuse him with his son Allan who provided the information for this website. Unfortunately, Allan (Sr) is no longer alive.

Allan initially wished to enrol immediately war broke out, but because he worked for the Railway’s Department, which was designated an essential service, his application for leave was declined. He then offered his resignation so he could enrol for service, and whilst this was declined, he was subsequently granted leave without pay and therefore enrolled at Middlemarch on 2/1/1940.
